Parking Lifts

What Is a Parking Lift?

A parking lift is a mechanical or hydraulic system that creates an additional parking level within the footprint of a conventional parking bay. It allows two vehicles to use space that would normally accommodate one vehicle. Parking lifts are suitable for residences, apartment buildings, offices, hotels, dealerships, workshops and commercial car parks where available floor area is limited.

OHC Lift designs parking systems according to vehicle weight, platform dimensions, clear ceiling height, installation area and daily operating frequency. The aim is to increase parking capacity without compromising operational safety or ease of use.

How Does a Parking Lift Work?

The vehicle is driven onto the steel platform and positioned according to the operating instructions. After the safety area is checked, the platform is raised or lowered with a push-button control. Depending on the project, motion is provided by a hydraulic power unit or a mechanical drive system. Guide elements keep the platform aligned throughout its travel.

Mechanical locks, hydraulic safety valves, limit switches and emergency stop controls are selected according to the application. A typical movement can be completed in approximately 30–35 seconds, although the final speed depends on travel distance, capacity and project requirements.

Where Are Parking Lifts Used?

Parking lifts can be installed in new projects or incorporated into suitable existing buildings. Common applications include private garages, apartment and residential parking areas, shopping centres, business premises, car rental facilities, service workshops and vehicle storage areas. The available ceiling height, floor strength, access route and manoeuvring space must be evaluated before the model is selected.

For indoor projects, the installation can be planned around columns, walls and circulation routes. For outdoor applications, corrosion protection, drainage and weather conditions are considered during engineering.

Advantages of Parking Lift Systems

  • Increases vehicle capacity without requiring additional land.
  • Uses vertical space efficiently in compact parking areas.
  • Provides controlled, stable movement for passenger vehicles.
  • Can be configured for different vehicle sizes and weights.
  • Supports residential, commercial and industrial projects.
  • Offers straightforward operation with clearly positioned controls.
  • Allows maintenance points and safety components to remain accessible.

Types of Parking Lifts

The appropriate system is determined by the number of vehicles, available width and height, structural conditions and operating scenario. Models can be grouped by drive technology, number of posts and platform arrangement. Hydraulic systems provide smooth controlled motion, while mechanical configurations may be preferred for specific layouts and duty cycles.

Two-Post and Multi-Post Parking Lifts

Two-post parking lifts offer an efficient solution for many private and commercial applications. The posts support and guide the platform while leaving the parking bay accessible. Four-post or project-specific multi-post configurations can be used when platform size, vehicle weight or site geometry requires additional support.

Column-Type Parking Systems

Column-type systems are engineered so that loads are distributed safely through the supporting structure. Depending on the project, columns may be connected at floor level or integrated with a dedicated frame. The final configuration is selected after dimensional checks and structural assessment.

Safety and Engineering Criteria

A parking lift should never be selected on capacity alone. Vehicle dimensions, centre of gravity, load distribution, travel height, pit requirement, headroom and the condition of the supporting floor all affect the design. OHC Lift prepares the system with project-specific mechanical, hydraulic and electrical calculations. Operating instructions, periodic inspection and preventive maintenance are essential for dependable long-term use.

Parking Lift Prices

Parking lift prices vary according to rated capacity, platform dimensions, lifting height, number of posts, hydraulic or mechanical configuration, installation conditions and optional equipment. Because every site has different dimensions and operating needs, an accurate quotation requires basic project information and, when necessary, an on-site assessment.

Contact OHC Lift with the vehicle type, available width, length and clear height, required capacity and installation location. Our engineering team will recommend a suitable parking lift configuration and prepare a project-specific quotation.
